Continued Progress - April 29, 2009

We are pretty much down to the punch list and still need help toward completion. The plan is to continue to work Saturdays until we get it all done.

If you have time during the week and want to help, please contact Dave Snyder at 217-491-5825.

Work to be completed includes:

Landscaping work – gravel and dirt

Garden shed needs to be built

Front porch needs to be constructed

Final pieces of siding, guttering and downspouts

                Crawl Space steps installed

                Insulate interior crawl space

                Minor repairs to drywall

Touch up painting

                Installing Vanity Light in bathrooms

                Install window screens

Although it may seem like a small, it stands between where we are today and the completion of this home.

Will you lend us a hand to bring this home to completion?

Habitat for Humanity to hold auction in Beardstown Saturday April 4

Habitat for Humanity of Cass and Schuyler Counties will hold their annual fund raising auction on Saturday, April 4th starting at 10 AM. The auction will be at Chester Enterprises, just north of the Beardstown bridge near the junction of Routes 67 and 100. This auction is one of several annual events that keep the Habitat ministry alive and energized. It’s a fundraiser. It’s entertainment, with some of the region’s best auctioneers at the microphone. It’s lunch. It’s an opportunity for Habitat’s widely spread family of volunteers to meet in fellowship before the summer building season.

The success of Habitat’s auction depends on the quality and quantity of items donated to the sale. This is a golden opportunity to peek in the attic or the garage; find that dusty treasure that you always wanted to use, some day, and put it to work right now. Let it stand in the sunshine of the auctioneer’s table where it will work two miracles: it will bring joy to the winning buyer and it will contribute to building the next Habitat house.

Habitat is accepting new and good used items as donations to the auction. You can bring items to the auction site on Friday April 3rd from 4 to 7 PM, or on the day of the auction any time after 8:30 AM. Gift certificates are welcome, but please don’t offer alcohol, food or clothing. To coordinate donations call Janet Detrick 217-322-3583 or Megan Rebman 217-491-1715.

Painting is Done, Doors are in, cabinets in

We now need to move appliances into the house that are in the trailer. If you haven't see our trailer, its worth a look. Last year, a group of Rushville High School students led by art instructor Jason Ackman, did a wonderful mural on the side of our storage semi-trailer. Its a great advertisement for our affilliate and obviously great on site storage for our material.

Having said that, we are working toward completing the many punch list items that stand between us and handing over the keys to the new soon to be homeowner. Most likely, each Saturday between now and the yet unscheduled dedication will be an opportunity to volunteer at the project.

Painting, Cabinets, Siding (Feb 7th)

The Kitchen is really taking shape as the paint is up, flooring is down and the cabinets are in place. We had a nice turnout last Saturday (Feb 7th), and nice weather to match it !
Pictured above are 1. Elder Fan Fan Charles of the Mormon Church applying some of the remaining siding, 2. John Schnepper working to intall cabinets in the kitchen, 3. Elder Chase Wheeler of the Mormon Church painting an interior wall.
The house is getting closer and closer to completion.
Next Saturday we are planning to install interior doors. We can use your help !

January 2009 - Getting Closer to Completion

Dave Hankins has completed the drywall finishing and primer spray. A big thank you to him for his hard work to complete this. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to hang the drywall and blow in insulation into the attic.

It is now time to paint ! While a good portion of this can be done by Brigitte, we could use your help. Many people have expressed their desire to help with interior painting and now is your time to shine!

Future work days will include interior doors and trim, installing kitchen and bathroom cabinets and fixtures, closet shelving, and many of the small detail items that make a structure a home.
In addition, there is still some outdoor work to complete as the weather allows.
Thanks for your help and service to this organization and its mission.
