Looking for a few helpers to blow in the attic insulation

Thanks to everyone who helped with the drywall. There is just a tiny little bit left to do. The finishers will be starting on Monday the 22nd. The furnace has been hooked up. Being good stewards of our finances, we need to make sure that all of the insulation is in place before running the heater. This means that we need to blow the insulation into the attic. Dave Snyder would like to work with a few people to accomplish this task. Ideally, he would like to do this on Thursday (yes that is tomorrow) in the morning, or sometime on Friday. This certainly could be during the day. Would you have a few hours to work with him on Friday? If we can get this done, we will be essentially done with volunteers for the rest of December. It will take the finishers about 10 days to do what they need to do. If we can’t get it done on Friday, we’ll be calling for anyone who might be available on Saturday. This is fairly easy work – I am told.

If you have any time in your schedule, please call Dave directly at 217-491-5825.

Almost ready for Drywall finishing

We still need some help this Saturday to finish the little bit of drywall that needs to be hung. If we can get a good group together, we should be able to knock this out in no time. The drywall finishers are anxious to get started.

The gas service is now installed and we will soon have the heat we need for the finishers. If all goes well, they should be done in about a week. Then painting, interior doors, floor coverings, kitchen work and the many many small details that go into finishing a home will be all that stand between Brigitte and her new home.

Please come join us on Saturday at 8 AM. The work is indoors and will be warm !
Call me if you have any questions.

Progress Continues on Habitat House

There is a lot going on at the Habitat house in Beardstown. The siding is close to complete and drywall is going up on the inside. Thanks to the help of Ernie Bolen and many volunteers, we are making great progress toward completion. We would really like to get Brigitte and her family in this new home as soon as possible.

Do you have experience with construction or maybe just a heart to help a family in need? We can still use YOUR help on this project. Give me a call or an email and we wil definately get you plugged in.

There will hopefully be an opportunity to hang some drywall this Tuesday afternoon November 25th. If you have time that afternoon and would like to help, let me know. The sooner we can get the drywall all hung, the sooner we can bring in the finishers to do their magic.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has helped us bring the project to where we are. I will have updated pictures of the project posted this week.

Windows, Doors, and Roof

The shingles are all on, the windows are in and the doors were set in.
Now we need to finish a little bit of house wrap and work on getting the soffit up.
Ernie got the doors set into place and got the strip placed for the soffit to install.
We still have the shed project that needs a sponsor. The material to build it is on site.

Walls and Trusses are Up

We had a nice turn out this morning and were able to get all the prefabricated exterior and interior walls set in place.

Next the top plate was installed. Finally, we set the trusses in place for the roof sheeting. On a side project, we started construction on the small 8 x 10 Ft storage shed.

Overall it was a good day and we had good volunteer support this morning. Thank you to all who were able to come out. A special thanks to Ernie Bolen of E&L Siding and Remodeling and his crew for their hard work today and making sure everything was plumb, level, and secure.

For those of you who aren’t planning to take part in the Beardstown Fall Festival next Saturday, we are at this time planning to set the roof sheeting and perhaps start in on roofing.

Sub Flooring Construction !

Work was done today to catch up for our loss of last Saturday's rain out. We plan to also work tommorrow if anyone can come after lunch time. Our goal this week is to get back on to schedule for this Saturday. We plan to put up walls, hang trusses, and sheet the roof as time allows. The Mt Sterling Correctional Facility is fabricating the majority of the walls for us and we will need lots of help to get them into place and fabricate any other interior walls that we need prior to setting the trusses. Make plans to join us this Saturday !

Foundation Blocks Complete

Last Saturday, the foundation blocks were laid. Thank you to our masons - the Nicholsons and the Vincents ! We had a good group of volunteers assist them.
The next item of business is the sill plate, floor trusses and subflooring. There is a chance of rain for this Saturday, but as of now we are still preparing to have a work day. I hope to see you there !
